1 Samuel 7:12
"Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, saying, 'Thus far has the Lord helped us.'"
In this section of scripture, we're told about how the Philistines were planning to attack the men of Israel. Samuel cried out to the Lord asking for Him to rescue the men of Israel from the hand of the Philistines. We discover that as Samuel was sacrificing a burnt offering, God thundered against the Philistines and threw them into such a panic that they were routed before the Israelites. The Israelites were then able to defeat them. Here, Samuel is erecting a stone of remembrance. He sets up the stone to remind him of what God has done in his life.
It is important in our walk as Christians to erect our own Ebenezers so that along life's path, we can look back and remember what God has brought us through. He is faithful and will continue to be faithful through the ages.
